New and Renewal of Machine Readable Passport

The Government of Pakistan has introduced Machine Readable Passport (MRP), for Pakistan Nationals within the country and abroad which is as per International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). All Pakistani Nationals possessing valid or expired Pakistani passports can apply for MRP in the Embassy of Pakistan Astana.

The Machine Readable Passport has been incorporated with special security features designed to check human trafficking and forgery. Pakistan is one of 80 countries in the world to have moved towards machine-readable traveling documents and first in the South Asia.

Physical presence is mandatory to apply for Machine Readable Passport:

All applicants are required to apply in person for MRP at the Embassy. Processing of MRP application includes recording of biometric data (finger print scanning), photographing, taking the applicant’s personal data and interview for which personal attendance is mandatory at the Embassy.

Pre-Requisites to apply for Machine Readable Passport:


MRP applicants must possess valid computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) or National Identity card for Overseas Pakistani (NICOP) issued by National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).

Senior citizens (65 years and above) are not required to renew their CNIC.

Applicants below 18 years should hold either NICOP or Form-S / CRC (Child Registration Certificate) issued by NADRA.

If there is a discrepancy between the information provided by the applicant and the data in NADRA’s database the applicant can rectify the information first in the NICOP before applying for MRP. The applicant will be required to produce documents like birth certificate, matriculation certificate, valid passport, or valid visa to prove or justify the change noticed in data fetched from NADRA warehouse. In case of change of a female applicant’s name due to marriage, the applicant should have her NICOP/CNIC card changed to the married name before applying for MRP showing the marital status on the Marriage Certificate.

The issuance of Machine Readable Passports (MRP) may be delayed due to unforeseen reasons and technical problems from the Directorate General of Immigration & Passports Headquarters, Islamabad, Pakistan.

REQUIREMENTS:


For Renewal of Machine Readable Passport: In normal terms Pakistani Passports expire after five years, they need to be replaced by new passports for which fresh application forms, photographs, biometrics and fee are required.

a) For applicants: 18 years of age and above


Valid and original either Computerized National Identity card (CNIC) or National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistani’s (NICOP) issued by NADRA with front and back sides photocopy of the card.

Original and latest passport either MRP or Manual (valid or expired) with photocopies of first four pages.

Proof of residence in the Kazakhstan (resident permit / visa / work authorization).

NOC in case of a Government Servant from concerned department.

Note: For processing, Officer dealing with MRP may ask for additional papers/documents if and when required.

b) For applicants: below 18 years of age


Valid and original Computerized Registration Certificate (CRC) issued by NADRA or NICOP along with two copies for the documents.

Both parents original NADRA ID Card along with photocopies (front and back).

Renewal of MRP


Renewal of Machine Readable Passport has the same procedure as applying for new one with all required documents.

REQUIREMENTS FOR MRP LOST PASSPORT:


Applications for lost passport are processed after verification of particulars by the passport issuing authority.

REQUIREMENTS:

Original Police Report
Original valid CNIC / NICOP / CRC with photocopy
Photocopy of lost Pakistani Passport

Fees Structure for Regular and Urgent Service:

Processing Time: subject to the verification from issuing authority.

Issuance of passport in such cases is subject to verification from original issuing authority and interview of the applicant. The processing timeframe mentioned above will only be followed in case the Embassy is satisfied of the antecedents of the applicant.

Third Time Loss: The Embassy may issue an emergency passport for return to Pakistan with intimation to Directorate General of Immigration & Passport in Pakistan.

*The receipt of Machine Readable Passports (MRP) from Islamabad is sometimes has been delayed due to technical problems).

Important Note on Collection/Delivery of Machine Readable Passport (MRP)



Applicants need to collect their passports in person. In case of passports of a particular family, even one adult family member can come to collect the MRPs issued for all his / her family members.

If applicants living at long distances are unable to come to the Embassy in person for collection of passport (s), they can obtain their new passports through courier services. In such cases, they are required to send a self-addressed return courier envelop along with their previous original passport and token. The courier expenses will be borne by the applicants themselves.

It is pertinent to mention that the Embassy will not be held liable for loss/damage of passport(s) during transit through the courier service.

All applicants are further advised to collect their passports by the due date. Passports not collected one month after the collection date will be sent back to the Directorate General, Immigration and Passports Headquarter, Islamabad.
